Christchurch members gathered with their partners to celebrate World FM Day. The purely social event also served as an opportunity to thank the partners for their unstinting support over the past twenty-two extremely busy and trying months in Christchurch. The hours worked in the immediate aftermath of the September and February earthquakes and the Boxing Day and June major aftershocks were almost incalculable. Without staunch back-up from the home front Facilities Managers and Facilities Contractors would not have been able to concentrate on the recovery and the repair of damaged assets. The event was jointly sponsored by Opus International and ECL Group. The event in Auckland took place at Mt. Smart Stadium, home of the New Zealand Rugby League. A speaker did a presentation on their success in implementing a PPP contract.
Location: Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales
Participants: Over 200
FMA Australia organised luncheons, seminars and guided tours throughout different locations in the country. All events were well attended and provided not only an opportunity to celebrate World FM Day, but also an chance to listen to speakers who highlighted the importance of FM in the built environment. A number of members also held events to celebrate FM on and around World FM Day. The take up of opportunities in 2012 saw an overall growth in the number of FM companies, facilities managers and client and suppliers to the industry, reflect on their involvement in the industry and the opportunities which facilities management has presented. A day to celebrate is, hence, an accurate description. Excitement from some of the events had a number of participants starting to think about how to recognise the day in 2013, and some tare evening saturating to prepare for World FM Day 2013. Overall a resounding success both for the local industry and the promotion of facilities management.
