I’m delighted to be able to write the first blog and launch the new Global FM website. The website will form a central and important communication platform to assist in delivering Global FM’s vision to increase global recognition of the facilities management profession.
We hope that by creating an online hub, our member Associations will begin to share success stories about the facilities and buildings that FMs manage and the challenges overcome. In doing this Global FM will highlight the diverse nature of FM work, as well as inspire others – both facility management organisations and individuals – to share in participating in FM through their Association on our journey.
Global FM has also identified that there are other ways the website will support this learning and awareness journey. First of all, it will enable greater connectivity among our existing community. For example it can become a platform for sharing information such as facilities management events and conferences that are taking place worldwide as well as highlighting specific Association issues. By having a better grasp of the issues we all face, we should be better placed to have a sense of the ‘common’ themes and discussion threads. When this is achieved Global FM will work together collaboratively with our Members to forge a collective view, find solutions and champion facilities management and its value to business furniture, governments, social infrastructure organisations and many others worldwide.
We have already made significant strides in recognising and celebrating success in a global sense through the Global FM Awards for Excellence and World FM Day. These Global FM initiatives are now firmly established on the facilities management calendar. The Global FM website will continue to support these as we move into announcing our plans for 2015.
